North Sikkim Quick Tour Itinerary

Day – 1:
We start your tour to North Sikkim as early as possible for Lachung in the morning say around 10:00 a.m. start journey towards Lachung. The road to Lachung fom Gangtok is about 140 km and travels through High Mountain in north Sikkim. En-route you see Seven Sisters Water Fall, (en route Lunch at your own cost), Miyang Chu, Naga Water Fall, Vim Nala & Twin Water Fall under sight seeing.

Between 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the afternoon arrival at Lachung, Check in to Hotel Himalayan Residency & leisure – Over night stay in Lachung.

Day – 2:

Lachung, North Sikkim

7:30 a.m. After breakfast, you start your day excursion to Simba Rhododendron Sanctuary, [Yumthang Valley] – the valley of flowers. Yumthang is a valley near the river Lachung Chu surrounded by mountains where the tree line ends
– at the end of winter the valley erupts in riots of colors as first fruit of spring. Rhododendrons and many other Alpine flowers in full bloom along with snow roofed valley except in autumn – During winter Yumthang is somber with snow all around and the snow clad mountains adding to the beauty. You can play around with snow as during utmost part of the year, the valley is filled with snow. On the way back you can visit the famous hot spring which is recognized for its healing properties of skin syndromes.

Lunch at Lachung, drive back to Gangtok.
Arrival at Gangtok in the evening. Tour concludes.

# GENERAL TERMS :

1. Tour Cost Includes: Transportation as per itinerary by Toyota Innova / Mahindra Xylo / Scorpio / Tata Hexa, (maximum 6 person including child in one vehicle) and accommodation in deluxe room on AP basis
2. Tour Cost Excludes: Soft & hard drinks, Mineral Water, on the way Food (optional cost Rs. 200/- net per pax), porter age, tips, any kind of personal expenses.
3. 1N/2D & 2N/3D Packages are covering Yumthang Valley, Hot spring, Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary.
4. 3N/4D & 4N/5D Packages are covering Gurudogmar Lake, Yumthang Valley, Hot spring, Simba Rhododendron Sanctuary.
5. Rs. 3500/- (net) per vehicle will be charged for Gurudogmar visit in 2N/3D Package.
6. Rs. 3000/- (net) for Luxury Vehicle will be charged for Zero Point excursion.
7. Rs. 1000/- (net) per room per night will be charged for the stay, in Superior Rooms.
8. Any Off Route Travel (due to Blockage in Actual Route / any other reason, beyond our control) will be charged Rs. 1000/- (net) for each Off Route Travel.
9. One Photo Copy of Photo ID Proof (Voter ID / Passport / Driving License etc. & two Copies of Passport size Photograph of each member are required to obtain Restricted Area Permit (RAP) to visit North Sikkim.
10. Guests are requested to carry minimum luggage to North Sikkim for their comfortable journey.
11. Guests are also requested to carry essential medicines required to travel in high altitude.
12. No claim for compensation will be entertained after completion of the tour, in case of any complaint, the guests have to settle the matter with the Manager of Lachung hotel.
13. Foreign Nationals are not allowed beyond Tshopta Valley and Yumthang Valley.

North Sikkim Tour

Itinerary: Gangtok – Lachen – Thangu – Chopta Valley – Gurudongmar Lake – Lachung – Yumthang Gangtok

Duration: 3 nights / 4 days

North Sikkim Tour Day 1:

North Sikkim Tour starts at 10:30 a.m. start journey towards Lachen. Just about 115 km from Gangtok, Lachen is located at an altitude of 8838 ft. Nearby villages of Rabom, Chaten, Talem, Yakthang, Kalep, Samdong and Thangu form a larger part of Lachen. Foot trails to the country s highest mountain peak Mt. Khangchendzonga and Mt. Sinolchu the most beautiful peak begin at your approach in Lachen. En-route Seven Sisters Water Fall, (Lunch at your own cost) Miyang Chu, Naga Water Fall, Taram Chu sight seeing.

Taram Chu is one of the Sikkim’s most notable hot springs. The springs, which have a high sulphur content, are renowned for their medicinal and therapeutic values. Naga Waterfalls lies at the Lachung-Yumthang Valleys trek route. The place offer panoramic view of snow-caped mountains all around. Chungthang lies on the confluence of two hilly rivers Lachen and Lachung Chu.

– 5:00 p.m. Arrival at Lachen. Check in to Hotel Himalayan Residency & over night stay in leisure. Lachen is perfect for an overnight halt when you having the spectacular north sikkim Tour.

North Sikkim Tour – Day 2:

8:30 a.m. After early breakfast, Day excursion to Simba Rhododendron Sanctuary, Yumthang Valley & Hot Spring. Lunch at Lachung, after noon free. Over night stay at Himalayan Residency, Lachen in the 2nd day of North Sikkim Tour.

North Sikkim Tour – Day 3:

5:00 a.m. Start for day excursion to Gurudogmar Lake, Thangu, Chopta Valley. Gurudongmar Lake, also known as Gurudogmar Lake, is one of the highest lakes in the world, located at an altitude of 17,800 ft (5,430 m). It is a lake which is considered sacred by both Buddhists and Sikhs. Thangu is located at an altitude of 13000 feet. Thangu is about 30 kilometers north of Lachen. Since it is located at a high altitude, the place remains covered with snow for most of the time.

Chopta Valley

Just 20-25 minutes drive from Thangu, only few places come close to the virgin appeal of Chopta Valley. On your return journey from Gurudongmar, take a turn to reach Chopta valley. There are numerous Chopta valleys in Himalayas and this one is above Thangu village in North Sikkim. A road runs parallel to the valley and you can travel for a few kilometers to see it stretching far.

2:00
– 3:00 p.m. reach Lachen, afternoon transfer to Himalayan Residency, Lachen. Thus ends third day of your North Sikkim Tour.

North Sikkim Tour Day 4:

9:00 a.m. Start for Gangtok, Vim Nala & Twin Water Fall sight seeing on the way (Lunch at your own cost). Arrival at Gangtok in the afternoon. North Sikkim Tour concludes.

Your arrival to Gangtok and departure can be arranged by Himalayan Tourism.

Tips

• Do not litter and deposit garbage at selected places. Keep all kinds of pollutants away from streams and lakes.
• It is customary to leave a donation at a monastery and to circle shrines in a clockwise direction.
• Avoid smoking, drinking and talking loudly near sacred places.

Extra Notes:

Tourists visiting Chopta valley has to stay overnight at Lachen. From here you start early morning for Chopta Valley and Gurudongmar Lake. Indian tourists may visit both but international tourists are allowed to visit only till the valley. The distance from Lachen to Thangu is just 30 kilometers. Within this short distance you will gain altitude of about 4500 feet. The green vegetation of lower altitude will soon give way to Alpine terrain with canonical trees. As you go further up, the trees give way to small bushes and beyond Thangu the vegetation is relatively less as you get into Tibetan plateau. The Chopta Valley is the last green vegetation on this route.

Chopta valley can be visited only as part of a package tour. Visit to North Sikkim requires special permit that can be organised by authorised tour operators such as ourselves. You can not visit the valley on your own. The travel and accommodation has to be booked in advanced through us as we are a recognized Tour Operator.

Most tourists stay overnight at Lachen and visit the valley as part of a day tour. Being high in altitude also means you will need substantial time spend in acclimatising before you can stay overnight here.

In Lachen, a traditional administrative system is in practice to follow rules and regulation and is known as Dzumsa. In summers, the interesting annual Yak Race called the Thangu takes place at Lachen. The population of Lachen is very less and goes up to just about a 1000 people altogether.

Gangtok – Lachung – Yumthang – Lachung – Gangtok

Day-1:

At around 10:30 a.m. start journey towards Lachung from Gangtok. Lachung is one of the most beautiful town in Sikkim with varieties of Rhododendron, Orchids and butterflies. In North Sikkim Short Tour, if the weather conditions are good and sky is  clear  you can  get  to see the Himalayan range. The view on the way offers  majestic view of mount Jopuno, mount Kanchendzonga, mount Sinolchu, mount Pandim, mount Simvo, mount Kabru and other Himalayan mountain peaks. The road side is wooded Rhododendron forest, generally blossoms during spring. En-route through the high Himalayan Mountains of north Sikkim visit Seven Sisters Water Fall. Day-2:
– 8:30 a.m. After breakfast, Day excursion to Simba Rhododendron Sanctuary. Shingba Rhododendron sanctuary through which flows the Yumthang Chu. The sanctuary is known for its abundance of Rhododendron trees and shrubs. Yumthang Valley & Visit the hot water spring and other places of interest. Lunch at Lachung.
In the afternoon visit Buddhist Monastery. Lachung Gompa, built around 1880, the
monastery is situated amidst apple orchards across the river from the town
centre. Also visit to Lachung Village. Over night stay at Hotel Himalayan Residency in Lachung.

Day-3:

# WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO TRAVEL GANGTOK & NORTH SIKKIM?

Late March to end of May is considered as best time for North Sikkim Tour. March to May is spring in North Sikkim and best to visit. The weather remains quite chilly and the valleys are in full bloom with primulas and rhododendron flowers with unspeakable beauty. The lakes are visible with crystal clear water.

After Monsoon, September to early December is also experience a large influx of tourist in Gangtok & North Sikkim. At this time weather remains clear and provides best scenic beauty of this virgin paradise.

End of December to early march is not advisable for seniors or Little Childs for North Sikkim Tour. One can experience heavy snow fall during this period. The road condition of this area may become worse with snowfall. Roads lead to the frozen Gurudongmar Lake, snow covered Yumthang Valley & Zero Point often gets blocked. But winter has its own charm. If you really want to experience the beautiful of Sikkim in winter, nothing can barred you.
